a toothbrush
| Repotting an orchid is a
good time to give it a thorough inspection in order to detect any problems
which may have gone unnoticed. Insects often like to hide under
the protective sheaths which cover pseudobulbs and rhizomes. An old toothbrush
dipped in a little rubbing alcohol will do an excellent job of removing dried sheaths.
In doing so, you may also kill any insect pests that
may be present. Always use care when scrubbing around new leads and root
tips, these parts are very fragile and damaging them can set the plant
back.
