This Maxillaria is well suited to growing on a mount because of the long rhizomes. Green tips on the wiry roots indicate that this is a good time to repot this orchid. Remove the orchid from the pot and clean away old potting media. Remove any dead roots, sheaths or old flower spikes. Inspect the plant for any disease or insect problems and treat as required. You may use an old toothbrush and rubbing alcohol to carefully scrub away old sheaths. Make a hole for a hanger using an electric or portable drill. Insert a piece of 10 or 12 gauge galvanized wire through the hole and fashion into an "S".

Examine the cork slab for any natural crevasses that may be used to anchor the orchid more securely. "Test Fit" the orchid on the slab making note of where you will actually place it. Squeeze a few dabs of glue on to the contact points of where you will attach the orchid. Place the orchid on the mount and hold in place for a few moments until the glue sets. Although the glue is not that hot, it is better to apply it to the mount rather than risk possible damage to tender plant tissue.
