Here are two suggestions for
mounting orchids
Many "twig epiphytes", such as equitant Oncidiums, Ionopsis, etc. are often grown mounted on sticks or small pieces of cork. This enables their fine roots to dry quickly after each watering. Eventually an orchid will grow to the top of the mount. If the material is in good shape and has not deteriorated, you can attach the hanger to the opposite side and hang the plant upside down. It will continue to grow toward the top of the mount.
